RocKwiz (Live)After filming 175 episodes of RocKwiz at The Espy and later moving to a Melbourne filming studio, the team is returning to its spiritual home next month. But, there’s a catch: it’s for four nights only.
Presented by Stone and Wood, RocKwiz is returning to its beginnings, hosting four nights at the Gershwin Room at Hotel Esplanade – The Espy – in St Kilda, Melbourne from Tuesday, 26, to Friday, 29 May.
The first of 175 episodes filmed in the intimate room aired on SBS in 2005. Across 14 seasons, the music quiz and performance series amassed a cult following before its final television recording at the venue in 2016. The series then went on hiatus before airing on Foxtel in 2023, but in between drinks, RocKwiz Live! continued to sell out shows across the country.
A decade later, RocKwiz returns to its spiritual home, but the cameras won’t be rolling this time, making for an up-close, unmissable experience.
The return to the Gershwin Room will host Julia Zemiro, Brian Nankervis, Dugald, and the RocKwiz OrKestra, plus a roster of yet-to-be-announced special guests, beloved games, and artist duets.

In a statement, The Espy’s Venue Manager, Ben Burgess, shared, “To have RocKwiz return to the Gershwin Room is incredibly special for us. This room has such a rich live music history, and RocKwiz is a huge part of that story. Bringing it back in such an intimate format feels like a full-circle moment for The Espy and for Australian music fans.”
Reflecting on the success of RocKwiz, Julia Zemiro added, “The huge success and longevity of RocKwiz is a crazy beautiful mix of the right people at the right time in the right place. And that place is the Gershwin Room at the Esplanade Hotel.
“We made hundreds of shows in that room for television, and it’s where I got to find the skills I needed to make this beautiful show thrive. To be coming back here is a beautiful coming home. See you there!”
Brian Nankervis concluded, “Well, this is incredibly exciting! Part of me has missed the intimacy, chaos, history and the sheer energy of The Gershwin Room since 2016. I can’t wait to be back in there, using what we have learned from 10 years of live shows in all sorts of venues around Australia and creating new magic moments in the room where it all began.”
