For me, personally, the biggest thing about releasing the album on vinyl was the visual component to it. Let's be honest, records aren't exactly the most convenient way to enjoy music, but it's such a neat package; a real piece of art to go along with songs. That's why we went above and beyond to make it the coolest package we could, from the spinning wheel in the cover to the splatter design on the vinyl itself. I guarantee you don't have a record like this in your collection.
The album has been out for a little while now, what have the reactions from your peers and
fans been?
It's been really encouraging that people were willing to grow with us and give us the freedom to make themusic that we want. We haven't gotten nearly as much "I only like the old shit" as we were scared we might since this album is decidedly different from our first album, The Circus. That's not to say it's a total 180 from that record, but a lot of time has passed and we wouldn't have been happy to be completely married to a sound for all that time.
Looking back on the album is it everything you wanted it to be or are there some elements
you would change?
It hasn't been long enough yet for me to hate any part of it but I'm sure in a year or so I'll find something. I honestly couldn't be happier with how it turned out at this point and it took a very long time and a lot of work to get it to that place so hopefully I can let this feeling last for a little bit.
For a country like Australia that may not be extremely aware of The Venetia Fair, can you
give a little insight into the band and the music you create?
Sure! We're a very loud rock and roll band that is a lot of fun and sort of over-the-top theatric but also pretty dark and kind of aggressive. When we play live, we all get hurt and break a lot of shit.
What is life like for a touring musician these days based on your experiences?
By my experience, the life of a touring musician is a lot of wal-mart parking lots and self-doubt. It's playing a show to a bunch of awesome kids or no awesome kids, feeding your whole band Bar-S hot dogs and baked beans for $5, and then climbing into your van-bunk to deal with your feelings of inadequacy as you fall asleep.
The first words under your Facebook description are “fuck you.” What did I do to deserve
this?
You know what you did..... think on it for a minute and I'm sure you'll find some piece of shit thing you got away with at some point in your life....
What does the rest of this year hold for the band?
We'll be doing a bunch of touring in the fall and then at some point we hope to put out this little cover EP we've been working on for our kickstarter backers.
