Demand for Gang of Youths’ upcoming back-to-back shows at the Sydney Opera House has been extraordinary, with tickets selling out within minutes of the general sale going live.

Following two pre-sales on Wednesday and Thursday, the general sale for the band’s two nights at the iconic venue went on sale yesterday (3 July). Tickets were quickly snapped up, while more than 17,000 fans joined the ticket queue during pre-sale and general sale periods.

Responding to the news that both shows sold out, Gang of Youths expressed gratitude for their fans and teased that more news is on the way.

They wrote on social media, “Both shows at the Sydney Opera House are sold out.

“Thank you everyone, we were blown away by the response and quick sell outs… we know a lot of you missed out, please subscribe via the link in bio to be first to hear about all upcoming news.”

Gang of Youths are performing at the Sydney Opera House – making their debut at the venue – on Saturday, 8 and Monday, 10 August. The shows mark the band’s first Australian gigs in four years.

According to a press release, the evenings will entail “new material alongside soaring favourites” from their beloved catalogue.

On their highly anticipated return to the stage, singer David Le’aupepe said, “There’s no place like home! We’re incredibly excited to be back, playing in Sydney, to finally play some new music in one of the most special venues in the world.”

Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music, Ben Marshall, added, “Praised for pairing crushingly intimate storytelling with monumental ambition, Gang of Youths have carved out a singular place in the Australian music landscape.

“They have a rare ability to make the deeply personal feel universal, transforming stories of personal grief, vulnerability and belonging into powerful moments of collective catharsis. After four years away from Australian stages, these performances promise a special and thrilling homecoming from one of the country’s most acclaimed live bands.”

Gang of Youths’ most recent album, Angel in Realtime, arrived in 2022.
