One of the brightest and most accomplished figures within the Australian music scene, Samuel Gaskin is the gift that keeps giving, unveiling their latest single ahead of its official release this week.
When it comes to hard-working individuals within the creative world, it's hard to look past the impact of Gaskin.
A cultural and creative renaissance man, Gaskin is a multi-hyphenate who has channelled their Māori and Nigerian roots for the award-winning production RECKŌNING: Te Waiata Paihere Wairua, has stunned audiences throughout the country with eclectic live shows, and has continued to keep the blood pumping with a string of stellar tunes.
In the case of the latter, it’s been a steady drip feed of releases in recent years, with Gaskin’s recorded output averaging roughly one new single per year. This time, however, we’re welcoming latest single The Gift into the world.
An upbeat piece of atmospheric, dancefloor-ready pop, The Gift is something of an ode to acceptance and pride, with Gaskin and collaborator Pip Norman co-producing a piece of work which is inspired by reflections on what they wish they had heard growing up.
“The main thing that came up for both of us was to embrace those parts of yourself that make you uniquely you, because that’s where the magic is,” Gaskin explains. “Not just your talents but your quirks and your differences too.”

“The Gift is being able to embrace all parts of myself,” Gaskin adds. “Being Queer, being Black, being fabulous, being a father being someone who is constantly making space for and uplifting my communities, it’s just what I’m meant to be doing and it’s a GIFT to know you are here in this realm doing EXACTLY what you are meant to be.”
Officially released on Wednesday, June 18th, The Gift arrives just days ahead of latest production AUNTY, which takes over Northcote's Town Hall Arts Centre on June 28th, and the next night at Warrnambool's Lighthouse Theatre.
Described as “part party part show,” AUNTY presents itself as a jubilant homage to Black women, queer icons, Indigenous royalty, and every breathtaking expression in between. A mesmeric cdlebration of self-expression, diversity, and unfiltered fabulousness, tickets to both nights of AUNTY are on sale now.
