National Record Store Day 2025 celebrations are just around the corner, landing this Saturday, 12 April, at an independent record store near you.
In addition to exclusive releases, for this year’s Record Store Day, an impressive string of in-store performances and activities have also been locked in. Artists including Press Club, Harvey Sutherland, BATTS, and more will perform in-store while you select the records you want to take home
Ahead of the big day, The Music spoke with some of the artists exclusively releasing albums, EPs and singles for this year’s event, including Pond’s Jamie Terry, Ninajirachi, The Grogans’ Quin Grunden, Lucas Harwood (Heavy Moss), Maddy Jane, and Loose Content.
Each artist has unearthed their favourite Australian record stores and told us which 2025 release they are either already vibing with or most excited about—check out what they have to say below.
Over 200 record stores nationwide are participating in Record Store Day this year. You can head to the new Record Store Day Australia website to see which stores near you are participating and scope out the exclusive Australian releases this year, which we also have listed below.

My favourite record store is Mills Records in Fremantle. It’s a throwback to the record stores of the pre-streaming era, which felt as much like places to hang out as to buy music. Like a cultural watering hole, especially before you were old enough to go to the pub.
Mills’ 50+ years of history are palpable in the mosaic of tour posters that seem to hold the walls up and its legendary owner, Bails, who will find the perfect record for you, no matter your taste or budget.
Olana Janfa - Chicken On Bike / Skillful Man, uniting the world one chicken at a time!
My favourite record store is Red Eye Records in Sydney. I have such awesome memories of visiting Sydney from the coast as a teenager and spending hours there. My high school boyfriend first took me there and I really love the second-hand section the most.
This year, I'm most excited about the new Skrillex album! He's my hero forever. And love the new Mallrat and Oklou albums soooooooooooo much. Also, my album!!
Record Paradise has been a Grogans’ staple for many years. We’ve been playing and digging there since we were teenagers. They’ve always had such a great, diverse collection.
Pretty keen to snag a sick compilation from Soul Jazz Records called 400% Dynamite for RSD. These reggae, soul and rocksteady compilations are so epic. I bought my first Studio One Selector from Record Paradise.
I recently moved back to my hometown of Geelong, and friends of mine have opened a second-hand record store called There And Back Again Records. It's quickly become a new favourite for me.
It's honestly the perfect size—massive record stores kind of intimidate me. They have a great selection of classics as well as more obscure genre-specific stuff, and Jack and James, the owners, are incredibly passionate and friendly. It's worth a train trip from Melbourne, as it's a one-minute walk from North Geelong Station.
I'm hoping Folk Bitch Trio will release an LP this year - I heard along the grapevine it's in the works. They're incredibly talented writers and their voices harmonise like some of the best.
My fave record store is Halcyon Daze in Newtown. They have a really nice collection and they are a great help if you’re looking for something specific.
I’m excited about The Grogans new release! Great band and good boys!
Our all-time favourite record store would have to be Howl & Moan Records in Byron, where we all grew up, played our first-ever live show and attended our formative underage in-store gigs.
Here in Naarm, where we’re currently based, we would have to draw a tie between Poison City and Thornbury Records. Both are extremely supportive of the local scene and stock some really cool shit. Desert Highways is also a definite Northern suburbs must-see.
