The 2013 Amp shortlist could be seen as a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to the criticism of the homogeny of last year’s list.

Clubfeet rapidly switch between chilled beats and modern disco, combining those conventions with each other. And it works great.

Unlike many of his contemporaries, Menace has created an album that could easily – and brilliantly – come together live on stage with a full band.

If you want a voice of clarity, reason and truth, then sit back and let Jessie Ware glide right over you.

Most kudos goes to the closing title track (about the death of his mother). It will slay you – it’s possibly the best song ever written that conveys the emotions of losing someone close to you.
