Overall, a musical that could have been a brightly coloured, high-pitched travesty is engaging, fun and a genuine success, where the film gets honoured while still allowing for creativity to be injected.

In spite of the suggestions of the premise, Blindscape’s audiences aren’t really free to navigate very far either within the realms of their soundscape or the venue and the strictures grow boring. It’s hard not to be excited by the potential of the concept, though.

The title and opening scene tell us to expect a tragedy but the story never really took us away from that and by the time the show really kicked in it was ten minutes from curtain call.

So in many ways, the addition of multiple guest vocalists aside, False Idols is business as usual for Tricky – another unusual addition to an unusual catalogue.

This is a world that is foreign yet seductive, hallucinogenic and intoxicating.

No question, some of the harmonies here give you a bit of feeling, and there’s a few crunchy riffs that crash into you just the right way; but as a record Renacer doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be, which by the end leaves you just as confused.

One imagines this was a cathartic record for Griffin and here’s hoping it finds the audience who won’t just appreciate it, but truly utilise its emotional gravitas.
