Taking the piss whilst paying homage is no easy task for any performer, but somehow the Tripod/Perfect foursome succeeds

Tripod have found their perfect foil in Eddie Perfect, the multi-talented artist who provides more than just vocals on this fascinating outing. Not only does this album provide a reminder of how great some of these songs are, it rejuvenates the Tripod lads, who are far more musically talented than perhaps their comedy allows them to be perceived. Interestingly, the vocal talent and arrangements outweigh the funny bits on this album.

The album opens with a Goyte song, Hearts A Mess, which is ripe for the vocal plucking; I'm sure Goyte would be proud of this version. The humour comes in fits and bursts, from the phrasing of Errol, the Australian Crawl classic, and Not Pretty Enough, a hit for Kasey Chambers. The moment of complete hilarity, though, is on the John Farnham hit, You're The Voice, where the rhythmic backing vocals chanting “Johnny Farnham” roll into a surge of laughter. It gets better with each listen.

Meet Me In The Middle Of The Air and Little By Little are two songs that work beautifully as harmony-laden ballads and leave the listener with a healthy feeling of being proud to be Australian. With Eddie Perfect, the guys lift their game and sound more like they are ready to take on the big stages around the country rather than the Campus circuit they started on. Like a Farnesy album, this album belongs in every Australian home. Taking the piss whilst paying homage is no easy task for any performer, but somehow the Tripod/Perfect foursome succeeds.
