It’s a powerful reminder of what music can do and, no matter what happens elsewhere in the country, there are few places in the world we’d rather be.

The Gangsters’ Ball is currently in its sixth year of touring, and the organisers still manage to pull off an amazingly entertaining night for a bunch of jaded Sydneysiders who have no doubt seen it all. Bravo.

The encore eased them down with Kelly’s I’m Not Afraid Of The Dark Anymore with the musicians vocally harmonising then moving into a somewhat off-kilter-sounding instrumental passage, rounding off the song cycle that “meditates on time, mortality, friendship and love”.

The Orbweavers is a thoughtful conversation about spirit, adventure, home and history, not to mention the great music.

There was a reason this day sold out and everyone went home pleased, and more than a little drunk.
