A big ‘hats off’ to one of the most interactive and captivating bands around.

He’s got an incredible voice somewhere between Nick Cave and Antony Hegarty, and some wonderful interpretive dance moves, as he swirls his arms rythmically and juts his hips.

Together these women represent the robust state of a perennially underappreciated folk rock scene in this country, and their excellent collaboration begs the question: why haven’t they been doing this all along?

After leaving Mojo’s and stepping back into the real world, I couldn’t think of a better ending to such a sweet weekend for the Perth music scene.

An encore has Lane performing I Won’t Back Down by Tom Petty and a final song that summons Williams and Ludecke back to the stage for a coming together of three of the best storytellers around.

The frontman then wrapped up the night by jumping down from the stage and singing most of the last song from deep within the crowd.

Finishing off with her hit single, The Good Life, it became clear how much Elizabeth Rose has grown into her music persona, bringing an energetic and strong presence to the stage.

Their strict policy on no encores materialises when they wind things up with Golden Jubilee and Feeding Line, leaving the many happy faces and a fine flagbearer for Australian music in their wake.

Violent Soho prove the perfect combination of scruffy rockers and consummate professionals with this highly memorable performance.
