The artists of Glory Box La Revolucion — dancers, singers, hoopers — are as dazzling as the flawless performances they give. The show is a fun and raunchy take on everything from cabaret to burlesque and performance art — truly unique and always captivating. You can't prepare yourself for Glory Box La Revolucion, but I will give you one piece of advice — avoid the first three rows if you don't want to get covered in milk.
Mama Alto — an idiosyncratic mix of statuesque fragility — has been referred to as 'a voice that defies gender', and Mama Alto's ability to nail everything from a wailing soprano to a sultry contralto will leave you in spellbound awe. Ethiopian dance hoop star Yeshewambtat Maharete was utterly magnetic, and the energy coming off the stage — the sheer joy she took in performing — was unparalleled. Creator Moira Finucane's performance pieces and bizarre soliloquies provided a wonderful framework for what was a truly hilarious, highly entertaining and extremely artful show. Glory Box are off to Cuba after La Revolucion ends in September, so make sure you get in on a one-of-a-kind show.
