"He builds up these mammoth real-world issues only to tear them down with a simple-yet-whipsmart punchline."
Damien Power has been nominated for a Barry Award, the most prestigious prize in Australian comedy, three years running and with his new show Violent Chaos Anyone? he could very well make it four years in a row.
Power has an incredible ability to take big-time issues (in this case, the final days of man, as humanity abandons traditional religion in favour of the church of self) and loop them back to everyday, relatable issues.
The Brisbane local revels in the huge reactions that his locational references get, but doesn't forget to remind us that laughing at Ipswich and lower socio-economic suburbs is all fun and games until one of us needs a plumber.

This is why Powers' show is so engaging, he builds up these mammoth real-world issues only to tear them down with a simple-yet-whipsmart punchline.
Throughout the show, Power checks in on his recent relationship with an African, feminist, Muslim, which ended with her moving to New York, Power mentioning he bought tickets to fly over and see her in May. This gives the show and open-ended feel that is a tad unsatisfying, but we guess we'll all just have to tune in next year for the concluding third act.
