Yungblud and members of Aerosmith will pay tribute to Ozzy Osbourne at this weekend’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Set to take place at the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York, on Sunday (7 September), the award ceremony will likely see Lady Gaga and Sabrina Carpenter pick up multiple wins.

However, metal fans might only want to tune in for one portion of the show, as Yungblud will join forces with Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, plus Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, for a medley of Ozzy Osbourne’s greatest hits. The heavy metal icon passed away in July at the age of 76.

Australian viewers can tune in to the award ceremony via a Paramount+ subscription (or a week-long free trial), or the MTV channel on Foxtel or Fetch TV. However, the broadcast on MTV won’t be the same feed played in the US.

The award ceremony will begin on Monday, 8 September, at 10 am AEST, with the pre-show airing an hour before the main event.

On social media, Yungblud wrote of the honour of paying tribute to his idol, “They’ve asked me to pay tribute to you at the @vmas on Sunday night. I’ll try my best to do you proud Oz. Tune in from up there. I love you forever. 🦇🦇.”

Yungblud was one of the most impressive performers at the Black Sabbath farewell concert, Back To The Beginning, in early July. He performed a dynamic rendition of the classic song Changes, where he was joined by Bettencourt, as well as II from Sleep Token and Adam Wakeman of Ozzy Osbourne’s solo band.

Steven Tyler also appeared at the event, where he performed a medley of The Train Kept A-Rollin’, Aerosmith’s Walk This Way, and Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love. He was joined by an all-star band in Ronnie Wood, Nuno Bettencourt, Tom Morello and Andrew Watt.

With his voice in impressive form, Tyler made a triumphant return to the stage after Aerosmith retired from touring last year due to his vocal injury.

Sharing a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne following his passing, Yungblud wrote on social media, “I didn’t think you would leave so soon the last time we met you were so full of life and your laugh filled up the room. But as it is written with legends, they seem to know things that we don’t.

“I will never forget you - you will be in every single note I sing and with me every single time I walk on stage. Your cross around my neck is the most precious thing I own. You asked me once if there was anything you could do for me and as I said then and as I will say now for all of us the music was enough. You took us on your adventure - an adventure that started it all.

“I am truly heartbroken. You were the greatest of all time.”
