American rockers Yellowcard have pulled the pin on their show at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion tonight, as singer Ryan Key has lost his voice.
The band and tour promoters Destroy All Lines shared the devastating news this afternoon. The band is working with Destroy All Lines to find an alternative solution for replacement shows and update fans as soon as possible.
Fans with tickets to the Sydney show are advised to hold onto their tickets until Destroy All Lines, the Hordern Pavilion, or Ticketek share further updates. At the time of publication, Yellowcard’s upcoming shows in Newcastle (Friday, 11 April) and Brisbane (Sunday, 13 April) are set to go ahead.
In a statement, Key shared that he woke up today with his voice “completely gone.” After consulting with a doctor, he was advised not to perform tonight in order to prevent any further damage. You can read his statement below.
Sydney, I know this is very last minute, and it’s the most awful feeling to have to make this statement, but I woke up today and my voice is just completely gone. I saw the doc this afternoon and she advised me not to play the show tonight to prevent any further damage.
I give you my word I’ve done everything possible to recover for tonight but I just couldn’t make it happen. We are working with the touring company to figure out rescheduling as soon as possible and will have more info very soon.
Yellowcard are currently touring Australia to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their fourth album, Ocean Avenue. They’re playing shows alongside special guests Motion City Soundtrack and Plain White T’s.
