American rockers Wheatus formed 30 years ago, but when they return to Australia and play in New Zealand for the first time in 2026, they’ll be celebrating the 25th anniversary of their self-titled debut album.
Wheatus’ self-titled debut album was released in August 2000 and features the timeless hit single, Teenage Dirtbag, a cover of Erasure’s A Little Respect, and the final single, Wannabe Gangstar/Leroy.
Teenage Dirtbag was certified triple Platinum in Australia in 2011, and Wheatus continue to have an impact Down Under, regularly touring and performing at festivals.
Their upcoming tour begins at Brisbane’s Crowbar on Thursday, 15 January. It continues at Canberra’s UC Hub on Friday, 16 January, Newcastle’s King Street Bandroom on Saturday, 17 January, Tamworth’s Blazes Showroom on Monday, 19 January, Sydney’s Manning Bar on Tuesday, 20 January, Melbourne’s 170 Russell on Thursday, 22 January, Hobart’s Wrest Point on Friday, 23 January, Freo.Social on Saturday, 24 January, and Duncraig’s The Carine on Sunday, 25 January.
The band then head to New Zealand for two shows at Auckland’s Tuning Fork on Tuesday, 24 January, and Wellington’s San Fran on Wednesday, 28 January.
Pre-sale tickets will be available on Wednesday, 3 September, at 9 am AEST / NZST. The general sale begins on Thursday, 4 September, at 9 am local time. You can find tickets via the Teamwrk Touring website.

Earlier this year, Wheatus frontman Brendan B. Brown and guitarist/backing vocalist Gabrielle Sterbenz returned to Australia with an all-acoustic tour, following two visits in 2024: Brown joined Everclear’s Art Alexakis for an acoustic tour in February, and returned once more with Wheatus in April for the inaugural Pandemonium Rocks Festival.
In a review of Wheatus’ set at Pandemonium Festival in Melbourne, The Music’s Madison Thomas applauded the band’s “gem-filled set” packed with “overlooked bangers.”
Adding that Wheatus have unfortunately been labelled a one-hit wonder, Thomas called their set “one of the most enjoyable” of the day.
Getting to the moment everyone had been waiting for, Brown told the crowd, “Thank you for making this song a hit… the first place that embraced this song was Australia,” as they ripped into Teenage Dirtbag, “which is shouted back at the band with gusto.”
