Perth indie rock outfit Spacey Jane have announced the release of their highly anticipated third album, If That Makes Sense, and revealed some big decisions they made along the way.

In addition to announcing the album, the Booster Seat group have shared a handful of surprise national tour dates. They kicked off said dates on Tuesday at Perth’s Rosemount Hotel.

They’re heading to The Lansdowne in Sydney tonight, and tomorrow, you can catch them at Howler in Melbourne. You won’t get many chances to see the band in such intimate spaces, so jump on tickets here.

Spacey Jane’s new album, If That Makes Sense, will be released on Friday, 9 May. According to a statement from the band, the process behind the album was a period of change and confusion. The group self-funded the album and crafted it “without a label home.”

In Australia and New Zealand, the band remain with AWAL. However, they’ve changed labels internationally.

Here’s what the band had to say:

This album isn’t trying to be anything in particular. Sometimes it is sure of itself and other times it whispers uncertainty. It feels like a contradiction of forgiveness and anger, love and breakdown and that's what I was trying to reconcile in the title.

It's hard to give it a theme other than an overwhelming sense of confusion and a less than successful attempt to tie up emotional loose ends. We went to the U.S., we put our faith in new collaborators and finished making a self-funded record without a label home for it. We stepped off the cliff everyday and loved it and we have never been happier with our work than we are now.

If That Makes Sense saw the band team up with producer Mike Crossey (The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, Wolf Alice) and songwriters Jackson “Day Wave” Phillips and Sarah Aarons (Childish Gambino, Miley Cyrus, Lykke Li). Today, they dropped the dreamy first single, All The Noise.

If That Makes Sense follows Spacey Jane’s conquering 2022 album, Here Comes Everybody, and 2020’s Sunlight.

Following the release of Sunlight, the band became indie darlings, reaching #2 on triple j’s Hottest 100 with Booster Seat, which was later named the ARIA Song of the Year. Here Comes Everybody debuted at #1 in Australia upon its release, and Spacey Jane were triple j’s most played artist in 2022.
