This year's winning feature at short film event Tropfest was revealed overnight, with dark-comedy Granny Smith taking out the top prize.
The film tells the tale of a young man who gets himself into an awkward situation with his colleagues after lying about his grandmother's death to get out of work. The flick was created Victorian film-maker Julian Lucas, who is now $10,000 richer. Lucas also won a new car and a trip to Los Angeles for meetings with film executives.
Granny Smith was chosen as the festival's best by a panel that included Underbelly and Offspring actor Kat Stewart and veteran Aussie film critic Margaret Pomeranz. Check out the feature below:
Second prize went to Red Nuts, which was directed by Cronulla's Jackson Mullane, with third prize going to Stuart Bowen of Newtown for his short Twisted.
Severe storms in Sydney yesterday almost rained out the event which took place in Centennial Parklands.
