"He gave me a massive hug in the water and said thank you about a million times."
In the midst of an Indonesian tour, frontman for WA grunge roots outfit The NbC, Jase Strugarek, has reportedly saved a local man from drowning.
The vocalist was spearfishing 150m offshore in Java when he came across a man in distress.
“As I went down to try and take a shot at a fish, I noticed that my float line was actually pulling me back to the surface, with quite some force,” Strugarek told theMusic.com.au.
“I decide to swim back to the surface to investigate whether it was a shark that had grabbed the float line or some other interesting and friendly sea creature only to see a Javanese man holding desperately.”

Speaking Javanese, Strugarek discovered the man couldn’t swim and appeared to have been out there for a while before stumbling across the float line.
“We made it back to the beach after swimming against the gnarly current, he gave me a massive hug in the water and said thank you about a million times,” Strugarek explained.
“The lesson here is tropical beaches can be paradise but they can also be dangerous places if they are not respected.”
The NbC’s Indonesian tour is their second visit collecting plastic and marine debris from beaches, rivers and more while educating the local community on the importance of proper waste disposal.
