Organisers Cancel UNIFY Gathering 2021; Confirm 2022 Event

Organisers have today announced that the 2021 UNIFY Gathering will not be going ahead. 

The news comes just months after event organisers shared that they were "in somewhat of a holding pattern" of whether the event could happen in early 2021 with current COVID-19 restrictions. 

They have shared a statement today saying that, "without enough assurances that the event can go ahead in a safe and financially viable way, we don't want to take any risks". 

"As promised, we have a Unify 2021 update, and some other news we'd like to share," read the statement. 

"Unify 2021 will not go ahead. We'd been hoping to have enough clarity to announce the festival today, with the view to have it take place in late March. However, without enough assurances that the event can go ahead in a safe and financially viable way, we don't want to take any risks. 

"Looking forward, the Victorian weather doesn't generally get much better until November - by which time we may as well stick to our usual time frame in January 2022. We still plan to keep as much of our already booked line-up intact, and we'll have some updates for you early in the new year."

While the much-loved festival won't be going ahead, UNIFY Gathering fans will still be able to get a taste of the event with a special radio event across 15-17 January. 

The festival has partnered with heavy music station The Faction to present live music from previous years, acoustic sets from Unify alumni, interviews with artists, fans and organisers and more. 

"We know this won't replace an actual festival, but we've all become accustomed to spending the middle weekend of January hanging out with like-minded folk and celebrating heavy music," said organisers. 

"What we're hoping is that we can encourage you all to have your own Unify related parties around the country, invite your friends and turn on The Faction radio to celebrate the music and community we all love."
