The Nation Blue have two new albums coming out? Damn, there really is a God, after all.
The Nation Blue haven't released an album in, whoa, what? Seven years?! Blimey, that's a long fucking time in this industry and today's world. But now the Melbourne trio is back, and hopefully, back for the better.
Come October 14th, the band's two new albums - 'Black' AND 'Blue' - will drop via Poison City Records with 29 songs between them. This will be the band's first album since 2009's 'Rising Waters' and since that release, the band more or less went their separate ways to pursue other musical outlets (Harmony, High Tension, among others). But as 2016 marks the big 2-0 milestone for the group, this could be such a crucial and impactful release for The Nation Blue, both financially and musically. I sincerely do hope it pays off for them.
Since contributing a single to the TYM Records 7", the band really opened up the floodgates to release all of their pent-up creative juices flow out as they went straight into writing this new material. Of course, with 29 songs, this could be too much of a good thing or it could be a perfectly balanced release that'll hopefully have far more lasting power than other dual records, like say, Periphery's 'Juggernaut'.
I still can't recall a single song from that bloody album.

Now, apparently, this whole project took close to 18 months for the trio and engineer Mike Deslandes to complete. The albums were actually recorded in the insanely echo-heavy, reverb-centric hall that is the Mechanics Institute in Kyneton, Victoria. My home town of all the damn places. Good god, if only I had known about that recording session I would have sat right outside the hall for hours on end just to hear new material from these guys! I mean, their song 'Damnation' is still one of the best tracks by any Australian punk/rock band to date. Like, of all time!
Anyway, moving swiftly onwards.
Alongside the announcement of these two new records, the band has also dropped a solid new single called 'Erectile Dysfunction' (pun not intended), which comes from 'Black'. You can give it a spin or two right here. The song is a deep, lively track that carries the all-encompassing, droning, punk rock sound The Nation Blue are known for, and it's good to have them back in the game.
You can watch the making of the 'Black' & 'Blue' below (filmed by bassist Matt Weston), which is a great 13-minute insight into their current lives, their career as a whole, and on creating double full-length records a la Guns N' Roses. I highly recommend this viewing, if only for the fact that you can briefly hear some banging new songs. Also, stay on the lookout for their inevitable album tour in the not too distant future as well.
