A fan of The Lemonheads has alleged that frontman Evan Dando sent her multiple unsolicited, sexually explicit videos via direct messages on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Following the allegations being made public, Variety reported that representatives for Dando said the singer had been hospitalised for ongoing mental health issues.

The fan, writing under the pseudonym Dawn, shared the allegations publicly on the website The Underground Bunker. Run by Tony Ortega, the website typically shares Scientology exposés.

However, the aim of the Underground Bunker changed due to the fans’ claims. Ortega explained, “In this case, we were approached by a longtime, very active reader who asked if we could help with a different kind of problem.”

Dawn’s allegations were published in detail on The Underground Bunker last Thursday (12 February).

She reportedly exchanged messages “back and forth” with Dando over X years ago, usually about art. Dawn sent him a direct message last October following the release of The Lemonheads’ first album in 20 years, Love Chant, and received a belated response earlier this month (4 February).

Replying to Dawn’s message, Dando reportedly wrote, “Cool I’m sorry I’m an exhibitionist.”

Unsure of what Dando was referring to, Dawn wrote back, “Don’t ever apologize for being you, my friend. Always be unapologetic. And you.”

The following morning, Dawn alleged that she received multiple messages from Dando, including a request to send her “an art photo.” She claimed that the singer sent her an unsolicited explicit video.

“It’s him sitting in a basement or something, and he’s fully masturbating,” she wrote. “You can see his penis, and his face. It’s definitely him. He’s filming it from a weird angle.”

The next day, Dawn alleged that she received another explicit video from Dando, along with the message: “Ok sorry thanks I just need an outlet Cheers.”

Dawn told Ortega that she had “never felt anger like that” following Dando’s message, and added, “Don’t call me an outlet, that’s gross.”

Evan Dando has previously discussed his struggles with mental health and drug addiction, most recently in his 2025 memoir, Rumors Of My Demise.

A representative for the singer said of his hospitalisation (via Pitchfork), “Evan Dando has long struggled with mental health issues dating back to his childhood. He’s been admitted to a local hospital where he’s receiving comprehensive help from experienced doctors and mental health professionals.”

The Lemonheads toured Australia for the first time since 2019 last May and performed their classic albums It’s A Shame About Ray and Come On Feel The Lemonheads in their entirety.
