Ray LamontagneRay LaMontagne collapsed on stage while performing at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium – the home of the Grand Ole Opry – on Saturday (5 September) after experiencing “heat-related dehydration.”
The American singer-songwriter and musician was performing his song, Jolene, and, according to fan-shot footage, looked like his balance was unsteady and he was swaying between singing his lines.
As he sank to the stage during the latter portion of his show, people nearby quickly rushed to his side to help. Consequence of Sound reports LaMontagne was assisted off the stage, and the concert ended early.
The publication noted that LaMontagne stopped twice while performing his song, Hannah, and seemed to lose his place. He also reportedly left the stage before going into Jolene. According to punters who attended the show, the Ryman Auditorium felt unusually hot.
Later that night, LaMontagne’s management took to the singer’s Instagram Stories and thanked fans for their concern, letting them know he was “doing well” after suffering “heat-related dehydration.”
“Thank you to everyone who came out to tonight’s show at the Ryman,” the statement reads.
LaMontagne’s management continued, “Ray is in good hands with the local EMS and is being treated for heat related dehydration, he is doing well now and is grateful for everyone’s understanding.”
The statement concluded by noting that the singer was “looking forward to being onstage in Louisville tomorrow night” – Sunday, 6 September, at the Louisville Palace.
Ray LaMontagne is commemorating the 20th anniversary of his beloved debut album, Trouble, released in September 2004. The album has since been certified Platinum in the UK and the United States.
In terms of the record’s cultural impact, stars including Missy Higgins and Zac Brown Band covered the songs Burn and Jolene, respectively, while multiple tracks from the album featured in Grey’s Anatomy and the films The Town and The Devil Wears Prada.
LaMontagne’s most recent album, Long Way Home, was released in August 2024. The album marked his first independent release after his previous records were released by RCA Records in the US.
