See you on the other side
Dishing out a number of tasty announcements in recent months, WAMFest has today unleashed the full program for this year’s four-day run, and with all the info in one place it’s clear just how massive the 2016 event will be.
The rebranded, burgeoning WA music staple kicks off in style with the annual WAMAwards shifting to Claremont Showgrounds, and while it’s sold out, there’s still plenty of chances to soak in the local music scene with the Friday night showcases, Saturday Specular and Sunday Best.
After a strong debut in 2015, the Friday Showcases have truly found their stride this year, featuring more than 50 acts - including Rag N’ Bone, Catlips, Moana, Spilt Cities and Shit Narnia - across 13 events on Nov 4.

WAMCon also kicks next Friday with 72 speakers making up one of the festival’s biggest conferences to date. 14 panels and a keynote from The Drones’ Gareth Liddiard takes over State Theatre Centre across two days. There’s also valuable one-on-one pitching opportunities with key players in the industry and more.
The highly anticipated local music overload returns in full force alongside the Block Party and – brace yourself – will host 159 acts on the day. The best part is, it’s all free. You’ll no doubt be buzzing after the final band wraps, which is why you should head down to one of two official WAMFest afterparties, the first of which goes down at Badlands Bar with Pat Cow and DJ Sophie Hopes of Tired Lion fame – proudly presented by The Music – and the second is happening at Jack Rabbit Slim’s with DJ Sleepyhead and Troy Division. Those with Block Party wristbands get free entry to both from 12.01am.
Another major addition to the festival last year was the added Sunday programming, and 2016 takes it to the next level with a partnership with Parlour that will see three public events at intriguing venues alongside a slew of private events, getting lovers of local music more involved with the scene. The Brow, Jayco Brothers, Teischa and more will play at undisclosed venues on Nov 6.
The program unveil coincides with the announcement of this year’s Kiss My Camera finalists and exhibition details, including The Music’s own Harry Bowman, Jackie Jet, Jonny Warrington, Kye Johnson, Linda Dunjey, Michael Farnell, Stuart Mckay, Tanya Voltchanskaya and Tashi Hall among others.
Select live and press shots from the finalists will be shown on the big screen in the PICA Amphitheatre throughout next week; to get you all the more pumped for the weekend.
