Streaming service rolls out 'live charts'
Music streaming giant Spotify are marking the first anniversary (which is Wednesday this week, to be exact) of their entry into the Australian market with the release of trend figures and the launch of live charts.
Although the number of subscribers has not been named, the company is claiming that 42.5 million hours of music was streamed by the Australian market across free and subscriber users in the first 12 months.
The top five local artists were Flume, Tame Impala, Guy Sebastian, 360 and The Rubens, while Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Florence + The Machine and Rihanna were the top three overall.
Flume's Holdin On was the top local track followed by Guy Sebastian's Battle Scars featuring Lupe Fiasco, Flume's On Top, Gotye's Somebody That I Used To Know featuring Kimbra and Flume's remix of Hermitude's HyperParadise.

Of Monsters & Men's Little Talks was the overall top track and the band's My Head Is An Animal the top overall album, followed by Alt-J's An Awesome Wave and Ed Sheeran's +.
Spotify's Australia and New Zealand Managing Director Kate Vale said, “I'm so proud of what we've achieved in Australia in such a small space of time. ARIA CEO Dan Rosen added, “It is has been an exciting 12 months for the Australian music industry as streaming services like Spotify have entered the market, providing Australian music fans with more choice on how they listen to their favourite music and ensuring artists and labels are being rewarded for their creative work.”
