Spilt Milk Festival dropped a late Friday announcement, announcing that they would not be going ahead in 2024. The sad news for live music fans came in an Instagram post from organisers saying:

“Sorry pookies, we couldn’t get you the Spilt Milk you deserve this year 🥲 Sooo imma dip for a bit and come back when I can make all ur dreams come true”.

While it’s sad news for this year, the post says the event will be back next year.

The multi-city event started in Canberra in 2016, expanding to the Gold Coast and Ballarat in 2019 and then Perth in 2023. Across its run, the festival hosted artists including Dom Dolla, Vince Staples, Lorde, Cub Sport, RL Grime, Peking Duk, Khalid, Juice WRLD, Steve Lacy, and Post Malone, becoming one of the go-to events for great local and international acts.

Which Australian Music Festivals Are Still Going Ahead In 2024?

With Splendour in the Grass, Falls, Caloundra Music Festival, and so many others cancelling or postponing their events this year, it's clear that the live music scene is in crisis. However, there are still some great events moving ahead.

Listen Out festival is all systems go across September and October, while Brisbane’s BIGSOUND is also on in early September. Woodford Folk Festival announced it was forging ahead last week, urging crowds to purchase their tickets. Big Pineapple Festival has also announced their line-up for their comeback event, while triple j’s One Night Stand in Warrnambool sold its tickets out in just one day.

Promiseland is still going ahead on the Gold Coast in October, while Ability Fest will hit Brisbane and Melbourne. Far North Queensland gets Savannah In The Round the same month. Jumping into next year, Juicy Fest is happening early on, and of course, Bluesfest will be back at Easter. For those who enjoy heavier music, Good Things is set to drop the line-up for December events, while Knotfest will return in March 2025, with Slipknot returning to celebrate their 25th anniversary.

And this just scratches the surface of the festivals still to look forward to across Australia. The rumour mill is in overdrive for Laneway and we’re hoping there’s even more still to come. While this year’s environment means you might have to dig a little deeper or travel a little further, there’s still plenty of great live music to be had.
