Thelma Plum has today announced the details of her debut album, as well announcing some very impressive collaborations as part of it.

As reported by The Fader, Better In Blak is due for release on 12 July and was written over a two year period.

Plum has scored some very impressive contributors for the album, including Gang Of Youths frontman David Le'aupepe and Paul Kelly, as well as Sir Paul McCartney

McCartney was reportedly visiting the studio where Plum was recording in New York and contributed guitar to the album's closing track, Made For You

"This album reflects some pretty dark times in my life but these songs kind of helped pull me out of it, it’s cathartic in a weird way," says Plum of the album.

"I’m excited for people to hear these songs but some of them come from grim places, so it’s a bit daunting having them see the light of day. There’s some funny stuff on there, too, it’s not all doom and gloom!"

The album's lead single, of the same name, was released earlier this year and speaks of Plum's experience as a Gamilaraay woman.

“I wrote Better In Blak about my experiences with people trying to take the colour from the conversation," shared Plum about the track. "My colour is an important part of who I am, and over the last couple of years I’ve had people try and tell me 'it’s not about colour' when obviously to me it is."

In addition to the album news, Plum has also announced a national headline tour, taking place this August. The tour will kick off at Miami, Qld before heading to Brisbane, Wollongong, Newcastle, Sydney, Belgrave, Castlemaine, Richmond, Adelaide and Fremantle.
