Silverstein team up with Underoath's Aaron Gillespie for 'Infinite'

New album 'A Beautiful Place To Drown' drops March 6th.

I kinda feel sorry for Silverstein in some ways. They're a pretty active touring band who've cut their teeth, who work hard, and who keep putting out new records. But so much of their love nowadays is built off their earlier releases, were a lot of their tours are marketed on the basis of them playing older tunes and less about the newer material, or are shows solely dedicated to performing certain albums of theirs in full, usually 2004's 'Discovering The Waterfront.' Even their Unify Gathering 2020 appearance is predicated upon their 20th anniversary, which seems like code for them just performing the hits. They now exist as a "legacy band"; a nostalgia act. Which is weird, because their output for new albums is mostly consistent.

Yet after hearing their latest single, the so-so 'Infinite,' perhaps the band should just stick to the classics, quite honestly. For at just 2:42 in-length, and dotted with the moody pop and trendy purple visuals that we see in current pop and pop-punk, it's an incredibly uneventful and generic post-hardcore rock song, with little to sink one's teeth into in terms of solid hooks or addictive passages. That repeated "it's infinite" vocal refrain made me laugh instead of making me emphasize with its message of feeling like depression is an infinite sea that one will never be able to leave. Not even Aaron Gillespie's cute little guest vocals in the second verse and bridge, nor the bending guitar riffage can lift this one out of mundanity.
