The Music chooses one song every week as its Power Pick, shining a light on ONE Aussie song that we think has the potential to be the next big Australian chart hit.

Our Power Pick committee consists of Richard Kingsmill (consultant and ex-triple j Music Director), Maddy Rowe (Nova nights announcer), Nic Kelly (Hit Network nights announcer), Ash McGregor (host of Listen Up with Ash McGregor), Kent “Smallzy” Small (Host of ‘The Smallzy Show’ on the Kiis Network), Irene Hulme (radio consultant and host of Game Changers Radio podcast) and Ollie Wards (ex-Head of Music for TikTok Australia).

Fresh from an impressive showing in triple j’s Hottest 100 countdown over the weekend, this week’s Power Pick is none other than Adelaide’s own Peach PRC and her latest cut, Back To You.

Released on January 16th as the third single taken from Peach PRC’s (born Sharlee Curnow) forthcoming debut album, Back To You is a joyful fusing of the acclaimed musician’s innate ability to craft floor-ready club bangers while pairing them with deeply personal lyrics that speak to the transformative period her new album sees her experiencing.

That debut album, dubbed Porcelain, was first teased back in November with the euphoric Miss Erotica, and later followed by Out Loud the next month. Already, they illustrate a journey that Peach PRC is undertaking and sharing a full-length record and musical diary.

“I’m in the middle of becoming someone else,” Peach explained alongside the album’s announcement. “The last time I did that was years ago, when I became Peach Porcelain from Shaylee, and entered into the world of stripping and everything that came with that.

“Now, it feels like I’m in another porcelain stage.”

“Truly Australia’s first ‘TikTok Artist’, Peach PRC has taken her rabid fanbase on a totally authentic journey from exploring her musical inspirations to telling her most honest stories yet, coupled with some of her best writing & radio-ready pop production to date,” Power Pick panelist Nic Kelly said.

“On the edge of her biggest Australian tour yet, it’s time for the industry to meet the enormous and invested fanbase where it’s at and get around this smart superstar.

PREVIOUS POWER PICKS

We’ve seen an impressive run from the artists featured in our previous Power Picks in the recent weeks and months, with plenty doing impressive numbers not just on streaming and commercial radio, but the charts as well.

While acts such as Yes Boone and The Kid LAROI currently sitting on the likes of the Australian Artists and Singles charts, so too is the Radio Monitor Hot 100 showcasing a strong contingency of local acts in the top 20 alone, especially over the summer months when international cuts find themselves soundtracking those warmer afternoons by the barbecue alongside our homegrown favea

Currently, Sonny Fodera’s Think About Us sits at #8 on the chart, followed closely by the likes of Tame Impala's Dracula at #12, Yes Boone's All I Really Want at #14, and Keli Holiday's Dancing2 at #17.

Over the weekend, Australia also found themselves breathing a sigh of relief as Aussie music once again became the dominant force in triple j’s Hottest 100, with England’s Olivia Dean being joined at #2 and #3 by Keli Holiday's Dancing2 and Tame Impala's Dracula, respectively.

All told – after a disappointing year in 2024 which saw just 29 Aussie acts in the mix – this previous poll brought that Aussie total to an impressive 54.

Needless to say, we’ve all heard everyone contend that Australian music is better than ever, and as the locals return to the airwaves, the charts, and to national countdowns in droves, there’s never been a better time for celebration.
