The Music chooses one song every week as its Power Pick, shining a light on ONE Aussie song that we think has the potential to be the next big Australian chart hit.

Our Power Pick committee consists of Richard Kingsmill (consultant and former triple j Group Music Director), Maddy Rowe (Nova nights announcer), Nic Kelly (Hit Network nights announcer), Ash McGregor (host of Listen Up with Ash McGregor), Kent “Smallzy” Small (Host of ‘The Smallzy Show’ on the Kiis Network), Irene Hulme (radio consultant and host of Game Changers Radio podcast) and Ollie Wards (ex-Head of Music for TikTok Australia).

Right as she’s in the middle of some of the biggest shows of her career, it’s clear that the sky is the limit for the unstoppable Mia Wray.

Releasing her debut album, Hi, It’s Nice To Meet Me, back in march of last year, Wray capped off 2025 with the news that she would be supporting British icon Ed Sheeran across the New Zealand and Australian legs of his Loop Tour.

As she touched down on local shores for the run of Australian dates late last month, Wray complemented their kick off by dropping her first new track for 2026 Dubbed When We Were Young, the infectious piece of synthy pop is one deeply rooted in nostalgia.

When We Were Young is kind of like my Peter Pan song,” Wray explained. “I have a hard time accepting that people grow up and move on and I just wish that everything could just stay the same forever.”

Serving as a taster of what’s to come next for Wray, When We Were Young is a testament to the Queensland-born artist’s knack at creating immersive, affecting pop hits.

Previous Power Picks

It’s been a big week of music over on the Radio Monitor Hot 100 chart, with the top spot being taken out by a local act for the first time since late 2024.

Sonny Fodera currently sits at #1 with Think About Us, his collaboration with British producer D.O.D. and vocalist Poppy Baskcomb, which just one week ago sat at its then-peak of #3.

First debuting on the chart back in November, Think About Us now holds the honour of being the first Australian track to top the chart since Cyril collaborated with Dean Lewis on a cover of Crowded House’s Fall At Your Feet. That one reached the top after 13 weeks in October 2024 – three months after its release.

When it comes to other local acts in the chart, Tame Impala's Dracula currently sits at No. 14, with Yes Boone's All I Really Want over at No. 22. You'll find Guy Sebastian's 100 Times Around The Sun at No. 31, while Wray's When We Were Young, and FISHER's Rain charting at No. 34 and No. 38, respectively.

Only two other local cuts feature in the top 50, including The Kid LAROI's Lithe-featuring RATHER BE at No. 41, and previous chart-topper CYRIL at No. 42 with his Maryjo collab, Still Into You.
