More KISS More KISS

In surprising music news, singer and actor Nick Jonas is set to play KISS frontman Paul Stanley in the upcoming biopic, Shout It Out Loud.

Deadline reports Jonas has “near closed” a deal for the film about the rock band’s early days in the 1970s. The biopic is set to begin production at the end of the year or in early 2026. Jonas will reportedly do his own singing in the movie.

While Jonas is best known for his music—with the Jonas Brothers and his solo career—he also has proven acting abilities. He grew up on Broadway, starring in productions such as Les Misérables and Hairspray.

Jonas also appeared as Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys Live and has experience on the big and small screen, with appearances in Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle and The Good Half and a scene-stealing role in the MMA drama series, Kingdom.

The film will be directed by McG. At the time of publication, no actors are currently attached to the roles of Paul Stanley’s bandmates, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss. However, Deadline notes that McG is looking for a “star” to play Simmons.

Screenwriter Darren Lemke, who has credits on Shrek Forever After, Goosebumps, Kung Fu Panda 4, and other films, is currently handling the most recent draft of the script. News of the KISS biopic first surfaced in 2021. At the time, it was reported that Netflix was close to a deal to lock in the film.

KISS returned to Australia in September and October 2023, performing their final shows Down Under at the AFL Grand Final as the pre-game headliners and with a headlining performance at Sydney’s Accor Stadium.

Reviewing the Accor Stadium show for The Music, Mark Hebblewhite wrote, “Even though KISS are now bona fide senior citizens, they retained a power and vitality that was truly jaw-dropping. Of course, KISS themselves were a well-oiled machine and sounded absolutely huge.”

Meanwhile, Jonas Brothers made their long-awaited Australian tour debut last March.
