New World Artists Appoint ‘Re-Inspired’ Returning Veteran Agent

Owen Orford returns to contemporary music after becoming “uninspired”

New World Artists have today announced the appointment of new Managing Agent, returning veteran Owen Orford.

Orford, who worked with artists such as Silverchair, Midnight Oil, Hunters & Collectors, Icehouse, Grinspoon and The Living End before becoming “uninspired” by the industry and leaving his company TPA, will return as part of New World Artists, which currently books 360, Sneaky Sound System, Urthboy, The Living End, Hermitude and Grinspoon.

Orford – who has worked closely with the company's agents in the past – told theMusic.com.au today that he was “re-entering the marketplace in a formal manner with New World Artists.”

He will not hold a director's role at the company but will oversee other agents and work hands-on with artists on the roster.

“There will be a concerted effort to take on new artists,” he said and confirmed that, “there will be some major artist announcements in the not too distant future.”

In today's announcement he said that his return came at a time that new technology had given the scene a shake-up and renewed his interest in working with Australian contemporary artists.

Another recent addition to the New World Artist staff roster is 21-year-old Tom Johanessen, who comes to the business after running his own agency – Fetch – for four years. He will focus on regional touring when he begins in 2013.

New World Artist's other agents include Edwin Tehrani, Julia Davis and Katherine Dale.
