Neil Young stands with Ukraine, so much so that he’s set to stand on one of their stages in just a matter of months.

The veteran Canadian rocker has announced that, off the back of an incredibly-divisive meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump, and Vice President JD Vance, he will be performing a free concert in the country.

“Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts will open the upcoming Love Earth Tour of Europe in UKRAINE with a Free Concert for all!” he wrote on his Neil Young Archives website. “We are currently in talks and will make the announcement of details here at NYA.”

The recent meeting between the Ukrainian and American heads of state took place on Friday, February 28th, and garnered widespread criticism of the way in which Trump and Vance both handled the meeting and spoke to Zelenskyy.

Condemnation of the American leaders’ behaviour was widespread, with numerous countries (including Australia) expressing their support of Ukraine.

Young is no stranger to criticising Trump, often invoking his 1989 song Rockin' In The Free World (which he previously sued Trump for playing without permission) while doing so.

“Under 47’s leadership, the US has lost its standing,” Young wrote in a website post titled Leader Of The Free World No More last month. “Loyalists will never be stronger than Patriots, and Patriots are in the majority here in the USA.

“Our Patriots will take to the streets to peacefully demonstrate. There will be a moment of truth in our country and we will show the world who we really are. The USA will again be the leader of the Free World.”

Young’s upcoming tour plans will launch in June with a run of European tour dates, before heading to the U.S. in August. Currently, there’s no word as to when he might visit Australia again, though fans are hopeful announcements might arrive when he ostensibly drops his debut album with The Chrome Hearts next month.

The 2025 Glastonbury lineup is also expected to feature Young when it drops soon, with the musician having made headlines when he distanced himself from the event, only to later confirm that “an error in the information received” led to him calling it “a corporate turn - off”, and that he would indeed appear on the lineup.
