Vietnamese pop artist Mỹ Anh is preparing to launch a handful of Australian shows this week, and while her local debut is a testament to the power of her stellar music, it’s proof of how valuable those international connections can be as well.
For fans of Mỹ Anh, they’ve been listening to her work for over five years now, with her storied back catalogue proof of her musical capabilities and her gorgeous skills as both a songwriter and a performer.
With numerous singles and EPs, and even the Vietnamese-language albums Me and Em to her name, this year has also brought with it the release of her English-language EP phases of the moon, which arrived earlier this month.
Already the EP’s journey has brought with it plenty of international acclaim. After all, Mỹ Anh had previously made history as the first Vietnamese Gen Z artist to appear on New York’s Times Square Screen in Spotify’s EQUAL campaign, honouring outstanding global female artists.
Additionally, recent single gentle, baby is another example of her global reach as she begins to show how her power and influence is spreading beyond her native Vietnam.

“gentle, baby is a classic R&B love song that came to life naturally and spontaneously during my first meeting with g0nny at a café in South Korea,” she explained upon its release.
“As I take steps toward an international journey, I have had the chance to connect with artists from around the world, and g0nny was one of the first with whom I felt an instant creative synergy.”
On the Australian front, however, Mỹ Anh’s journey to our shores can be attributed to numerous factors – most notably is the Victorian Music Development Office's (VMDO) Networking Breakfast in February, with its topic being APAC Exchange.
Supported by Asia TOPA, the event featured a panel of experts discussing building meaningful exchange between the Victorian music industry and South East Asia, with the likes of Live Nation's Wenona Lok on moderation duties, and Sounds Australia's Esti Zilber on the panel alongside Vietnam representatives Michael Choi and Dong Nguyen of InQ International and Hot Panda Media, respectively.
Nguyen has been working with Mỹ Anh for some time now, helping the acclaimed artist reach greater heights at every turn, with the connections made through the VMDO’s Networking Breakfast undoubtedly resulting in an Australian debut for the musician.
This week sees Mỹ Anh launching her first visit to Australia with an appearance Vivid Sydney on May 30th, with Mỹ Anh appearing alongside TikTok sensation turned breakout artist Chi Xê performing as part of the NextGen: V-Pop event.
Over a week later, she'll make her way down to Melbourne, where she performs as part of the Northcote Social Club's Social Sanctuary series on June 9th, sharing a bill with Canadian folk/R&B singer-songwriter Meiwa and global busking sensation Tanya George.
