"The concept of her being immersed in New York City to fully focus on writing a new collection of songs is exciting."
Brisbane alt-R&B trio MKO Sun's frontwoman and primary songwriter Hannah Macklin has been awarded the 10th annual Grant McLennan Fellowship, taking home $25,000 and the opportunity to head to New York City to write for an upcoming releaase.
The prestigious grant — named for The Go-Betweens' late guitarist — was awarded last night at The Triffid, with judges stating, "“There is a sense of adventure to Hannah’s songwriting, and the concept of her being immersed in New York City to fully focus on writing a new collection of songs is exciting.
"We have no doubt that the combination of Hannah’s unique sense of artistry and the filter that is New York will create something remarkable."
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk also said, "The Grant McLennan Fellowship has gone far in helping Queensland songwriters make new connections and develop skills in an international market and I wish Hannah every success in New York."
