Midweek Chart Report: Rubens, Clare Bowditch Follow Pink

19 September 2012 | 2:30 pm | Scott Fitzsimons

Expect another week of album upheaval

The upheaval at the top end of the ARIA Albums Chart is set to continue this week, with another batch of strong releases gunning for the top five.

Last week saw a brand new top three, with The Amity Affliction's Chasing Ghosts leading from The xx's Coexist and The Presets' Pacifica. Buoyed by a strong in-built fan base, Amity's staying power is yet to be determined especially with Pink's The Truth About Love, Carly Rae Jepsen's Kiss and The Killers' Battle Born all tracking well according to mid-week figures.

There's also traction for The Rubens' self-titled record (which has been near the top of iTunes all week), Clare Bowditch's The Winter I Chose Happiness, Grizzly Bear's Shields and Seth Sentry's This Was Tomorrow. Given the other three juggernauts releases last week, though, they may find it difficult to crack a top five place when The Rubens and Clare Bowditch would normally have had a strong case.

All the excitement remains at the album end though, with Guy Sebastian and Lupe Fiasco's Battle Scars hoping to fend off Pink's new track Try and Birdy's Bon Iver cover Skinny Love.

The dark horse in the ARIA Singles Chart is Psy's Gangnam Style, a viral YouTube sensation that is gathering chart momentum around the world. It climbed into the top 40 of the UK charts last week after a steady rise and looks like it will make its presence felt locally this week as well.
