The Rolling StonesThe days of endless tours may have come to an end for The Rolling Stones, with guitarist Keith Richards hinting that the band could be looking to residencies rather than traditional tour dates.
He mentioned the idea in a new interview with Uncut Magazine, in which he said, “I don’t know if tours are possible.”
Adding that the “travelling” aspect of tours is what tires the band out, he didn’t rule out playing shows, night after night, in a couple of cities.
“It’s the travelling that takes it out of you,” Richards said. “But I do see the possibility of us doing residency somewhere. Wherever it is, London, New York, Paris, anywhere. I’ll play Rome! But I don’t see why they shouldn’t be able to throw some shows together in a new format.”
The touring talk concluded with Richards saying that being a Rolling Stone is still “exciting.” He explained, “It’ll be exciting until something inside me says, ‘That’s that.’ I love working with the guys. I mean, what am I gonna do?”
The Rolling Stones toured North America in support of their latest album, Hackney Diamonds, in 2024. The British rock icons are releasing their 25th record, Foreign Tongues, next month (10 July). The album can be pre-ordered/pre-saved in multiple formats here.

Along with vocalist Mick Jagger and guitarists Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, the album is home to the band’s key collaborators, Darryl Jones, Matt Clifford, and Steve Jordan. It also features a special appearance by longtime drummer, Charlie Watts, recorded during one of his final creative sessions with the band before his passing in 2021.
Watts isn’t the only special guest who features on Foreign Tongues. In fact, The Rolling Stones have amassed an impressive roster of rock icons to join them, including Paul McCartney, The Cure’s Robert Smith, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, and Steve Winwood.
“The Foreign Tongues album has a continuity from Hackney Diamonds, and it was great to be working in London again, and to have that London vibe around us,” Richards said upon the album’s announcement last month. “It was a month of concentrated punch. To me, it’s all about the enjoyment of it. I’m blessed to be able to do this and long may it last.”
Foreign Tongues is the follow-up to Hackney Diamonds, which, in 2023, marked The Rolling Stones’ first album of original material in 18 years.
They kicked off that album campaign with a single, Angry, which featured Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney in the stylish music video and became a Top 40 hit in 12 countries—their first in the UK since 2005.
