Tame Impala Lead Tribute Album For Smashing Pumpkins

The upcoming release was co-signed and personally titled by Billy Corgan himself.

Later this year, a tribute album for one of the world’s most loved alternative-rock bands, The Smashing Pumpkins, will be released – with Tame Impala leading the honours.

The album, Sending Hearts To All My Dearies - A Tribute To The Smashing Pumpkins, which was co-signed and personally titled by Billy Corgan himself, features “transformative” versions of the band’s iconic anthems, such as Bullet with Butterfly Wings and Jellybelly.

Leading the tribute announcement is Tame Impala’s mesmerising take on Hummer, which you can check out below.

The track is from Smashing Pumpkins’ landmark 1993 album, Siamese Dream. For their cover, Tame Impala expand on the dreamy psychedelia present in the original, adding signature vocals, guitars, and percussion to create a modern take on a classic.

Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker opened up about his personal connection with Hummer in a statement, where he revealed, “Siamese Dream was the soundtrack to my high school years, and ‘Hummer’ is the song that takes me back there in the most potent way.”

Also featured on the album are artists such as Palaye Royale, Nita Strauss, Between the Buried and Me, The Midnight, Meg Myers, and many more. Check out the track listing below.

Sending Hearts To All My Dearies - A Tribute To The Smashing Pumpkins will celebrate the band’s incredible catalogue. The tribute album lands on streaming services and digitally via Sumerian Records on Friday, 14 August, followed by a deluxe double LP vinyl release with multiple exclusive variants, set for release on Friday, 16 October.
