Metallica have teamed up with Apple to air their new “immersive concert film.”
The band officially shared the news at the South By Southwest Conference in conversation with Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich and Apple’s Zane Lowe.
Set to premiere this Friday (14 March), fans will be able to watch for free on Apple Vision Pro. The concert was filmed during the band’s final M72 show of 2024 in Mexico City and features performances of hits including Enter Sandman, One, and Whiplash, among others.
The concert film marks a “new foray” into immersive technology. It uses ultra-high-resolution 180-degree video and Spatial Audio, with wide-angle views of the band’s infamous Snake Pit. Apple helped elevate the show by building a custom stage plot that contained 14 Apple Immersive Video cameras.
In addition to the concert film, simply called Metallica, the band will drop a new live EP, Metallica Live From Mexico City, on Apple Music this Friday.
Fans can access an extended preview of the concert film as part of the Apple Vision Pro demo at Apple Store locations worldwide, including Australia. You can reserve a free demo at your local Apple Store, but you need an Apple account to schedule an appointment.

Metallica will return to Australia after a 12-year absence this November. Along with special guests Suicidal Tendencies and Evanescence, the heavy metal icons will perform in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney before heading to New Zealand for a show in Auckland.
The M72 Australian stadium tour, produced by Live Nation, will find Metallica performing at the end of stadiums, with the band’s infamous Snake Pit extended from the front of the stage.
