Julia Jacklin ProfileAustralian singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin is releasing her new album, The Gem, later this month, and she’s just confirmed a run of listening parties ahead of its release.
The Australian listening parties will take place in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney the night before The Gem is released – on Thursday, 24 September.
To celebrate the release of The Gem, Jacklin’s new label home – 4AD – will host “a series of special craft nights” where the album will be played, and fans can make their own collages inspired by the music.
“Depending on the location, attendance will either be first come, first served, or require a small ticket fee to guarantee your spot,” a statement on Jacklin’s website reads.
Each event’s capacity will be “very limited.” Select events will also feature a raffle to win signed prints, t-shirts, tickets, and copies of The Gem.
Brisbane fans can hear the new album at Stash World, Melbourne fans at That Paper Joint, and Sydney fans at the Sydney Collage Society. All events are 18+, cost $10, and start at 6 pm local time.
In addition to the Australian listening parties, events will also be held in the UK, the US, Thailand, and the Philippines. Tickets to all listening parties will be available from 10 am local time on Monday, 14 September, via Julia Jacklin’s website.
Jacklin won’t be in attendance at the events, but they’re still shaping up to be something special.
The Gem will be released on Friday, 25 September. It marks Jacklin’s debut release on 4AD; in Australia, it’s dropping via Remote Control Records. You can pre-order/pre-save the album here.
Jacklin and Robert Muinos produced The Gem, which was recorded in Melbourne. Muinos, owner of Rat Shack Studios, was a key collaborator alongside Jacklin’s friends Jacob Diamond (guitar), Mimi Gilbert (bass), and Jess Elwood (drums).
“I want to love and be loved, but I also want to be free. The tension between those two things has been the central question of my life,” Jacklin explained, revealing that that’s the theme integral to the album.
Julia Jacklin is one of Australia’s most revered, celebrated songwriters. The Gem follows three celebrated solo records: 2016’s Don’t Let The Kids Win, 2019’s Crushing, and 2022’s PRE PLEASURE.
