Meg MacAscendant Aussie chanteuse Meg Mac has made the highest debut of the week aboard the Carlton Dry Independent Music Charts, with new single Never Be standing high above the pile as not only the Singles ladder's new #1, but the sole new entry for that top 20 this week.
There's only marginally more fresh activity in the full-length stakes, where Brissy pop darlings The Jungle Giants do the job with second album Speakerzoid, claiming the highest new entry in those rankings at #3, while Caulfield still step out strongly with their new record Outcast, making its first appearance at #8.
Otherwise, familiar faces remain dominant across the board, most notably Sia, who is enjoying a hat trick of entries high on the Singles ladder with Fire Meet Gasoline, Big Girls Cry and Elastic Heart sitting pretty at #2, #3 and #4 respectively, while Chandelier only just fails to make it four in a row, falling just below Hermitude's The Buzz (#5) to come in at #6. Seemingly out of nowhere, meanwhile, Chet Faker finds Gold once again charting at #17 after a period of absence from the charts.
In terms of albums, only incumbent entries The Gospel Album, by Gurrumul, and Sia's 1000 Forms Of Fear managed to better The Jungle Giants' debut, maintaining their positions at #1 and #2 respectively, while Seth Sentry (Strange New Past, #4) and Hermitude (Dark Night, Sweet Light, #5) round out the top five. Gurrumul's new cut isn't his only appearance this week, as self-titled LP Gurrumul remains on the list at #11 (down from #8), while slacker-rock fave Courtney Barnett sees her The Double EP: A Sea Of Split Peas make its reappearance in the rankings at #17.
