Ponyfish Island, the floating bar near Southbank on the Yarra owned by Australian DJ Grant Smillie, St Jerome's Laneway Festival founder Jerome Borazio and The Taboo Group's Andrew McKinnon, fell victim to wild weather in Melbourne today when driving rain and rising tides quite literally sent it under.

The island's submersion has rendered it inoperative for the time being. The venue said in a Facebook post that all staff were safe and sound, but that the bar would be out of action until the “king tide recedes”.
Still, even with this unfortunate setback to business, if there's any positive to be taken away from this ordeal, it's that Mother Nature just helped Ponyfish Island earn more publicity than all the happy hours and ladies' nights in the world.

Ponyfish Island is located underneath the Yarra Pedestrian Footbridge between Southbank and Flinders Street station, and -- usually, at least -- is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 8am to 1pm (10am on Sundays).
See the venue's website for more information.
