25th Anniversary celebration for the record that marked Kylie's artistic peak.

More Kylie Minogue More Kylie Minogue

One of Australia's most underrated classic albums is getting its first ever vinyl issue with Kylie Minogue's 'Impossible Princess' hitting wax in four different versions to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Minogue's lowest selling, but arguably most influential record, the album was fraught with setbacks on release in 1997, with its UK release being released as a self-titled disc after the death of Princess Diana. Following on from her first self-titled album which set down its creative path with the dark pop of 'Confide In Me', Impossible Princess continued Minogue's creative evolution. Her duet with Nick Cave on 'Where The Wild Roses Grow' had already polarised fans and her relationship with Michael Hutchence opened up her musical palate. The album only just scraped into the UK top ten but was a platinum success here at home.

The album's debut single 'Some Kind Of Bliss' was produced by the Manic Street Preachers' James Dean Bradfield and was the first ever Kylie single of the 90s to miss the UK top 20. The song also stalled at #27 in the Australian charts, but the followup 'Did It Again' reversed the fortunes, popping into the top 20 in both countries and going gold in Australia. It's memorable video with various versions of Kylie's personality battling it out in a police lineup is one of the key visual moments of her career.

'Breathe' and 'Cowboy Style' completed the quad of singles from the record and gave Minogue the kind of musical respect that propelled her next albums to the top of the charts and Kylie herself into the realms of icon status.

The vinyl is being released in four variants- a limited picture disc (already sold out), transparent violet (direct website exclusive), orange and marbled with gate fold slick. We're disappointed not to have a variant with the limited lenticular cover that adorned the original album's limited edition, but beggars can't be choosers.
