Kimbra Won’t Take #1 From Hilltop Hoods This Week

Revealing midweek figures

More Kimbra Kimbra

New Zealand-born, Melbourne-adopted artist Kimbra will be the top debut on the ARIA Albums Chart this week, but it won’t be enough to chase down current number one Hilltop Hoods.

According to midweek figures Kimbra’s new album The Golden Echo is gunning for a top five debut, a result that will match the peak position of her 2011 record Vows. Her debut album peaked at four, but spent a healthy 39 weeks in the chart.

Favourite to keep the number one spot are hip hop veterans Hilltop Hoods with their fourth number one in a row – Walking Under Stars. It’ll face pressure from Angus & Julia Stone’s self-titled record, which is currently two but benefiting from tour ticket sales, and the soundtrack for Guardians Of The Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1, which jumped from seven to three last week.

Shihad’s FVEY is a fair chance to debut in the top ten alongside a resurgent Paloma Faith and her album A Perfect Contradiction. They’ll be ahead of new releases including The Voice Kids 2014 and the soundtrack to Begin Again.

In a week where there isn’t going to be seismic changes in the pecking order The EaglesSelected Works: 1972 – 1999, INXSThe Very Best, Arctic MonkeysAM and Passenger’s Whispers are all experiencing modest sales increases.

The midweek figures also show a bit of a status quo in the singles chart, with Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass and G.R.L’s Ugly Heart in the mix. Perth star Troye Sivan will push into the top ten with Happy Little Pill – which previously peaked at 16 and currently sits at 34 – while Sydney DJ Timmy Trumpet featuring Savage’s Freaks is also enjoying sales this week.

Top 50 debuts will come from Jason Derulo featuring Tyga’s Bubblegum and Milky Chance’s Flashed Junk Mind, with sales increases for Itch’s Another Man and Iggy Azalea featuring Rita Ora’s Black Widow.
