Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer has appeared in court following being arrested for his role in the US Capitol riots earlier this month.

Schaffer was arrested by the FBI earlier this week and is currently facing six charges.

According to Blabbermouth, Schaffer appeared in court on Monday and is expected to be in jail until at least this Friday.

It was speculated that Schaffer - who has been open about his support of outgoing US President Donald Trump and has previously been seen wearing Confederate Flag paraphernalia - was involved in the riots when a photo circulated online of a man with a similar appearance to Schaffer.

It's now been confirmed by the FBI that Schaffer was among rioters that attacked police with bear spray - a capsaicin pepper spray - during the riots.
