More The Go-Betweens More The Go-Betweens

Cancel whatever plans you have on Sunday night, because Brissy community station 4ZZZ has a massive treat in store for the faithful listeners of its weekly program Live Delay: namely, a recently discovered recording of a 1983 performance by seminal Qld act The Go-Betweens.

Airing at 7pm this Sunday, 27 August, on Zed Digital (and repeated on 4ZZZ itself on Thursday at 11pm), the recording captures a vintage gig by the beloved band at Caxton Street's Baroona Hall, now known as Lefty's Old Time Music Hall.

Previously thought to be 'long lost', the newly unearthed set features early singles including Karen, People Say, Your Turn, My Turn and Hammer The Hammer as well as tracks from their, at the time, just-released second album, Before Hollywood, and even Man O'Sand To Girl O'Sea, from their then-impending third album, Spring Hill Fair (1984).

Recorded by Mark Louttit for 4ZZZ on 3 July 1983, the performance boasted a line-up consisting of Robert Forster, Grant McLennan, Robert Vickers and Lindy Morrison, and, according to the station, its recording was "recently found in an archive pile in [Louttit's] garage". (Talk about your fortuitous finds.)

There are all kinds of good prizes on offer, in addition to the general sense of satisfaction you'll get from helping Brisbane's community radio champions when you settle down with Zed Digital on Sunday night to relive a real piece of Brisbane's live music history.

Zed Digital is unfortunately not available online, but if you have a DAB+ radio, you can tune in to hear the gig on Sunday, or wait till Thursday night to listen in on the ol' FM or web stream.
