Guy Sebastian is riding high after receiving some well-deserved praise from none other than the Queen of Power Ballads herself, Celine Dion.

Dion’s comments were made in a recent video shared to TikTok in which she provided a new batch of songs that appear on her playlist of songs she has on repeat.

“I’m often asked what I’m listening to, so here are a few songs from my playlist lately,” she says in the video caption. “Different moods, different moments…but all ones I love.”

Going through her latest additions to the playlist, Dion offers up some thoughts about the tracks themselves, including Rihanna’s 2016 track Love On The Brain, which she notes “should have been mine, I’m just saying.”

Alongside choices from the likes of James Blunt, Lauren Daigle, and Celeste, Dion also singled out Before I Go, the opening track from Sebastian’s 2020 album T.R.U.T.H..

“I love sooo much Guy Sebastian!” the musician espoused passionately. “Guy Sebastian, do you write songs for other people?”

Sure enough, Sebastian was made aware of the plug, taking to TikTok to add his own comment. “I’ve watched this clip 1000x,” he admitted. “No one comes close to you! Thanks for the shout out Queen.”

James Blunt could also be found in the comments, thanking Dion for her love of his breakthrough single You’re Beautiful, noting that she can have it. “I'm done with that one now,” he said.

Elsewhere in the video, Dion also gave an enthusiastic plug to Metallica, specifically singling out their 1996 single Until It Sleeps. “I want to sing a Metallica song,” she admitted, offering up her best metal vocalist impression.

Since making his debut into the world of Australian music as the winner of the first season of Australian Idol back in 2003, Sebastian has carved out a career as one of the country’s favourite musicians, scoring three No. 1 albums across his career, and twice as many chart-topping singles.

Dion has sadly been largely absent from the performing world in recent years. Having released her most recent album in 2019, she’s since issued a handful of singles, but has refrained from performing live largely since 2020, revealing back in 2022 that she suffers from stiff person syndrome.

“This last couple of years has been such a challenge for me, the journey from discovering my condition to learning how to live with and manage it, but not to let it define me,” she said in the lead-up to her 2024 documentary I Am: Celine Dion.

“As the road to resuming my performing career continues, I have realised how much I have missed being able to see my fans. During this absence, I decided I wanted to document this part of my life, to try to raise awareness of this little-known condition, to help others who share this diagnosis.”

In July 2024, Dion appeared at the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympics, where she performed Edith Piaf’s classic Hymne de l’Amour (Hymn To Love).

The performance was so rich and gorgeous that The Guardian aptly described it as follows: “[she] performed it with the gusto of someone who, by her own admission, longs to resume touring more than her fans.”

Sadly, it’s unclear as to whether she will return to the touring circuit, and whether she will may ever perform her first Australian shows since 2018. If she does though, you can remain relatively certain that Guy Sebastian might just join her on the bill.
