The Olympics are beloved for the Games showcasing big-time sporting moments, including triumphant returns.

And what’s more triumphant than what we saw this morning – Celine Dion making her highly anticipated comeback before the Eiffel Tower, sending a beacon of hope, resilience, and courage to go on?

For her first performance since 2020 and after revealing her Stiff Person Syndrome diagnosis in December 2022, Dion took to the stage and performed Edith Piaf’s classic Hymne de l’Amour (Hymn To Love). The performance also marked her return to the Olympics: Celine Dion last performed at the Olympic Games in 1996, when they were held in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.

Dion’s voice sounded strong and beautiful, and she commanded the stage with her inimitable grace and soaring vocals. Dion’s return to the stage was emotional, with the singer nearly bursting into tears (could you blame her?) during her performance.

The performance was so rich and gorgeous that The Guardian aptly described it as follows: “[she] performed it with the gusto of someone who, by her own admission, longs to resume touring more than her fans.”

The official Olympics Instagram account captioned photos of the singer’s performance: “Celine Dion performs on the Eiffel Tower!✨ just when we thought this #OpeningCeremony could not get any better. World, welcome to #Paris2024!”

Fans who watched Dion’s performance have reacted with pride, calling her the GOAT (Greatest of All Time), her vocals “insane,” and describing her as “an example of resilience, strength and overcoming.”

You can watch Dion’s arresting comeback performance at the Olympics below.

Dion first spoke of her diagnosis in December 2022, saying that she’d suffered debilitating muscle spasms that she’s since revealed can be so severe that they can “break” ribs.

As a result of her diagnosis, Dion wiped last year’s entire slate of touring. She’s kept active as an artist, though, releasing the single Love Again – her first tune since 2019 – last April. She made her first public appearance since revealing her diagnosis in October 2023.
