Celine Dion is reportedly set to make an epic comeback at the 2024 Olympics, with a new report suggesting that she’ll perform at the highly anticipated Opening Ceremony on Saturday (3:30 am AEST).

If the My Heart Will Go On singer does perform at the Opening Ceremony of this year’s Olympics, it will mark her first performance since being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome and retreating from the public eye in December 2022.

The new rumour was reported by Variety. The publication also noted that Dion is currently staying at the Royal Monceau hotel near the Champs-Élysées. Lady Gaga, another potential Opening Ceremony headliner, is staying at the same hotel.

Amid speculation of Dion’s potential headlining performance at the Olympics Opening Ceremony, French President Emmanuel Macron said it would be “fantastic news” if the rumours are true.

“Apparently, she has arrived in Paris, it’s great!” Macron told French broadcaster France 2 (via BBC).

Macron continued, “I would be immensely happy if she could be at this Opening Ceremony, like all our compatriots. I will not reveal anything, what [Opening Ceremony director] Thomas Jolly and all his teams have prepared. There is also a surprise.”

The new documentary, I Am: Celine Dion, arrived on Amazon Prime on Tuesday, 25 June.

In a statement, Dion said about the documentary, “This last couple of years has been such a challenge for me, the journey from discovering my condition to learning how to live with and manage it, but not to let it define me.

“As the road to resuming my performing career continues, I have realised how much I have missed being able to see my fans. During this absence, I decided I wanted to document this part of my life, to try to raise awareness of this little-known condition, to help others who share this diagnosis.”

Dion first shared her stiff person syndrome diagnosis in December 2022, telling her fans that she’d suffered debilitating muscle spasms due to the condition.

As a result of her diagnosis, Dion was forced to wipe an entire slate of touring.
