GRUB, a fierce rock outfit hailing from Perth, have released a new single that invites you to embrace life’s messiness.
The Floor was crafted by lead singer Matilda Beales through her challenges in chemotherapy treatment.
“I was feeling pretty awful and spending a lot of time lying on my bedroom floor. So this was my attempt at a bit of a 'pull up your bootstraps and get on with it' sort of vibe.”
This track is a candid reflection of how much life can suck, but GRUB encourages you to pick yourself up off the floor and keep moving through the motions.
What started as an ‘internal pep talk’ evolved into an anthem for those close to Beales, honouring resilience and strength through their own hardships.
“What I like about this song is when the chorus came along, the focus then shifted outside of me and my shit and became a song for the people I know and all the stuff they were going through,” Beales says.

Beales’ raw vocals are supported by other Perth music legends such as Duncan Strachan, Mitch McDonald, Edo Ekic and Peter Bibby, each bringing their own expertise to create this moody yet motivational piece.
The Floor is the second release by the rock act, with their debut single Ghost coming to light in November 2024, where we can hear similar sultry and cathartic sounds.
Since their formation, GRUB have developed an electric presence with high-energy performances, sharing the stage with bands such as Kill Devil Hills, Full Flower Moon Band, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, and Last Quokka.
The Floor has been released just in time for their upcoming gigs with other local WA acts POND and The Peep Temple in the South West.
