Just a week after Splendour In The Grass organisers announced that the festival wouldn’t happen this year, Australia’s music festival scene has been dealt another blow: Groovin The Moo won’t be going ahead in 2025.

Organisers shared the sad news about Groovin on Instagram this afternoon.

The post reads:

Groovin the Moo won't be happening in 2025, while we work on finding the most sustainable model for Australia's most loved regional touring festival.

We will really miss seeing the smiling faces of all our beloved Moo Crew - and that means YOU!

In the meantime, which artist would you most like to see on a GTM lineup?

The festival’s hiatus this year follows the cancellation of last year’s edition just two weeks after the line-up was announced, citing insufficient ticket sales.

Last year’s bill locked in numerous international acts, such as The Kooks, The Beaches, Armani White, GZA & The Phunky Nomads, Jessie Reyez, Meduza, Melanie C, Mura Masa, and Stephen Sanchez.

In terms of local talent, last year’s Groovin The Moo was set to feature Alison Wonderland, DMA’S, The Jungle Giants, Jet, King Stingray, Mallrat, San Cisco, The Rions, Nerve (performing alongside ECB and Cloe Terare), The Grogans, and more.

Ahead of the line-up announcement, organisers revealed that the Maitland leg had moved to Newcastle. The travelling festival was set to stop in Wayville, Canberra, Bendigo, Newcastle, the Sunshine Coast, and Bunbury.

Days before the festival’s cancellation announcement, Groovin’s programmer, Rich Moffat, departed the role. In August, The Music reported that Moffat was appointed programmer of the Theatre Royal in Castlemaine, Victoria.

Groovin The Moo ran its first-ever edition in 2005, running every year until 2019. 2020 and 2021 were the first years to be cancelled.

Since its inception, Groovin has grown to be one of Australia’s most memorable festivals, booking the likes of Billie Eilish, Denzel Curry, alt-J, Wolf Alice, Disclosure, Nothing But Thieves, City And Colour, Architects, and many more to regional locations across the country.
